Welding Machines

Semi-automatic welding - a device for semi-automatic welding with mechanized welding wire feed. The main components of the welding machines are shown in the figure below.
components of welding machines
By purpose welding machines can be divided into:
  • welding machines for welding in protective gases;
  • welding machines for submerged arc welding;
  • welding machines for welding flux cored wire;
  • universal welding machines.
Welding machines for welding in protective gases provide a supply of gas to the welding zone, equipped with a gas valve, stopping the flow of gas after the termination of the welding process.

Welding machines for submerged arc welding torch to have a special funnel to fall asleep flux. They have a more robust mechanism for the wire, since the submerged arc welding wires are typically used larger diameter than the gas-shielded welding.

In semi-automatic welding flux cored wire for welding uses a special design of the feed rollers to prevent flattening of the wire.

Universal welding machines are equipped with additional components (welding torches, wheels, etc.), allowing their use for different welding methods (for example, semi-automatic, manual and TIG welding).

Wire feeders used in semiautomatic welding
The main components of the wire feed mechanism - motor, gearbox and feed rollers.

TABLE. Classification of mechanisms of the wire used in welding semi-automatic.
By design
Stationary Mounted stationary on a special console or semiautomatic welding power source.
Portable Carried by the handle.
Mobile Mounted on wheels.
Installation with respect to the welding torch
Push-type The feed rollers are installed before the torch hose and push the wire into the channel of the burner. Commonly used in semiautomatic welding for welding steel.
Pull-type Mounted on the welding torch and pulls the wire through the channel of the burner. Commonly used in semiautomatic welding for welding aluminum.Disadvantage - heavier welding torch that holds a welder in his hand.
The pulling-pushing type Usually used for welding aluminum, semi-automatic welding when removed from the place of welding, and hoses have a significant extent.
Depending on the method of controlling the speed of wire feed
With stepwise control Powerful enough wire feed by means of change gears and transmissions. The drive usually uses three phase induction motor. Disadvantage - the welding of thin metal, and in some other cases is quite difficult to find the exact mode of welding.
With infinitely variable Usually used for small diameter wire. As a rule, the DC motor.
