The company Lincoln Electric has released a new cored wire Metalshield MC-706 for semi-automatic welding (GMAW).

Features of wire:
  • span wire is made of mild steel;
  • minimal spatter;
  • low hydrogen content;
  • high welding speed;
  • allows a large number of surface contamination;
  • designed for welding in a mixture of argon (75-95%) and carbon dioxide is not recommended for welding in pure carbon dioxide;
  • applications - shipbuilding, robotics, heavy manufacturing, process piping and pressure vessels.

American researchers from Rice University (Rice University), Sandia National Laboratories (Sandia National Laboratories), and Brown University (Brown University) found that the nanowires 3-10 nm in diameter are able to unite with each other by applying a relatively low pressure and without heating ( the effect of "cold welding" nanowires ).

The discovery was made accidentally. The researchers gathered to determine the strength of gold nanowires in tension with special microscopes. They broke the pattern and measured the amount necessary to them, after which the ends of the wires come in contact with each other. To the surprise of scientists, the integrity of the nanowires has been restored, and at the same time, as shown by measuring its strength has not diminished.

Did not affect the characteristics of the samples and multiple lacerations and compound: nanowires were not destroyed at the site of the "cold welding", and the evaluation of the electrical conductivity of each time were similar.

The authors believe that the main factors in successful integration of nanowires are of single-crystal structure and orientation of the crystals coincide. According to one of the researchers, Chun Lo, this method of "cold welding" can be used to create arrays of nanowires of complex configuration.

Employees of the Siberian Federal University (SFU, Krasnoyarsk) have developed a unique electrode for underwater welding . The invention is already interested in the large industrial companies, and on the basis of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Emergency plan to create a center of underwater welding and cutting.

A young teacher Polytechnic Institute SFU Maxim Ustinovich used as the basis for universal mounting electrode of Soviet design, intended for dry welding. He covered it with varnish, able to withstand temperatures up to 300 degrees, and wrapped with a special film that looks like the food. The result is an electrode for underwater welding.

Tests are ongoing, but the results already suggest that domestic electrodes for underwater welding can be expensive to compete with the great American. Import the electrode is about 50 rubles apiece, and the Russian - 5 times cheaper. The quality they do not differ. According to Maxim Ustinovich process of underwater welding electrode is gently domestic and joints are obtained without any defects.
