Concern ESAB introduced gantry machine Combirex DX , designed for plasma and oxyfuel cutting. The new system can have from one to four cutters:
- Only one plasma cutter or in combination with one, two or three oxygen torches;
- Up to four oxygen torches.
Plasma cutting can be performed both in the usual way, and under water. Automatic control of the gas allows for easy switching between marking and plasma cutting. Maximum thickness of material being cut - 63.5 mm (depending on power source).
In oxy-fuel cutting, the maximum thickness of the material is about 200 mm. The process is fully automated with automatic ignition burners, control its height and proportionate regulation of gas flow. As the combustible gas can be used acetylene, propane, natural gas. It is also possible to use mixtures of flammable gases.

Research Fellows of the Institute for the Study of Fraunhofer physical methods of measurement (Freiburg, Germany) have developed a new method of laser welding no through penetration of the welded products. In this case the laser beam does not reach the bottom surface of the metal and leaves no visible marks on it. Experts call this technology "controlled by welding with a partial penetration" (Controlled partial Penetration welding).
Fraunhofer Institute in cooperation with scientists from the Stuttgart and Dresden was a prototype, which controls the process of laser welding. To monitor the process uses an innovative thermal imaging camera, which generates up to 14,000 images per second. The system determines the depth of penetration of laser shots and controls the power and duration of its emission.
A new welding method is very promising in the automotive industry, because it requires no further processing outside seams or finishing decorative panels. In addition, the evaporation of zinc is excluded at the bottom of the joint, leading to corrosion of galvanized car bodies.
